Balochistan has placed its case strongly before the International Monetary Fund (IMF), highlighting the worst flood devastation in decades, highlighting recent floods devastation.
Officials told the IMF mission that collapsed roads, destroyed agriculture, and mass displacement have crippled the province’s fragile economy. They warned that rebuilding communities will take years without urgent international assistance.
Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) also briefed the IMF, saying assessments of flood losses are still underway.
Meanwhile, the IMF has demanded updates on reforms, including anti-money laundering efforts, asset declarations of senior officials, and progress on governance and corruption risk assessments.
Pakistan has so far received $2.1 billion under the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF). With Balochistan and other provinces struggling for survival, Islamabad is pressing for flexibility in fiscal targets and faster disbursements to speed up recovery.
