The federal government has released Rs2.77 billion for Balochistan’s development under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2025-26, according to official documents shared with the Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.

Out of a revised allocation of Rs24.49 billion for Balochistan under “Demand No. 109 – Other Development Expenditure, Provinces and Special Areas,” the disbursed amount represents just over 11 percent of the province’s allocation, aligning with early-year trends. Overall, provinces were allocated Rs92.79 billion under this demand head, with total releases reaching Rs3.01 billion — of which Balochistan accounts for nearly 92 percent.

The province’s development portfolio focuses primarily on road connectivity, water resources, and municipal infrastructure, identified as key constraints to its economic growth.

Road Projects:
The PSDP 2025-26 funding targets construction of black-top roads, bypasses, and major links connecting agricultural and mineral zones to national corridors. Notable projects include:

  • 110-km Chedagi–Panjgur Road connecting to the Iran border

  • 103-km Zhob–Mekhtar link via Murgha Kibzai

  • Northern Bypass in Loralai

Water and Irrigation Projects:
Water security initiatives such as the Ghand Dam project in Dera Bugti aim to stabilize irrigation and drinking water supplies through small and medium reservoirs in drought-prone areas.

Urban Infrastructure and Municipal Development:
In cities including Quetta, the PSDP allocation supports drainage, streetlighting, solid waste management, and traffic systems as part of smart city-style interventions. Additionally, community facilities such as schools and health infrastructure are also being enhanced to improve urban living standards.

The release of funds under Balochistan PSDP 2025-26 underscores the federal government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity, water security, and municipal infrastructure, vital for sustainable provincial growth.
