Balochistan Police, supported by security forces and local residents, foiled an attempted terrorist attack on a police station in Bhag Nari, Kachhi district, in the early hours of September 4, with three terrorist killed during the encounter, according to reports.
Bhag, also known as Bhag Nari, is a city in Kachhi district situated in the Kachhi plains near the Nari River. The city lies in an important part of central Balochistan linking the Sibi-Nasirabad belt with areas toward the western hills.
The attackers, described by Pakistani authorities and local reports as belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan, attempted to enter Bhag city and target the police station at around 6am. Security arrangements had already been strengthened in the area.
Police personnel responded immediately when the terrorists approached the city. Security forces, including Pakistan Army troops and FC Balochistan reinforcements, were also deployed to prevent the attackers from advancing further.
The swift response by the police and supporting security forces forced the terrorists to retreat after an exchange of fire. Three terrorists were killed, according to the latest reports. No security personnel were reported killed in the initial reports of the incident.
Police, Security Forces Respond Swiftly
The response in Bhag Nari highlighted the role of local police as the first line of defence against attacks on government installations. Police personnel engaged the attackers as they attempted to enter the city, preventing them from reaching their intended target.
Local residents also joined the response by supporting the police and security personnel during and after the incident. Following the attack, residents gathered outside Bhag Police Station, raising slogans in support of the security forces and condemning the terrorist assault.
The area was subsequently brought under control, while a search and sanitisation operation continued to locate any remaining militants and secure the surrounding areas.
Attack Comes Amid Security Threats in Kachhi
The attempted assault comes amid a series of attacks and attempted attacks on police and government installations in Balochistan. Recent incidents in Kachhi have included attacks on police facilities, including an August 20 assault and arson at a police station and tehsildar’s office in Khattan.
The latest incident therefore underscores the continuing security challenge faced by police stations and other government installations in the province.
For Bhag Nari, however, the attack was stopped before the terrorists could establish control of the city or overrun the police station. The immediate response by police, followed by the arrival of reinforcements, prevented the attackers from achieving their objective.
The search operation for the remaining elements is continuing, while authorities are expected to establish further details about the attackers, their organisation and the planning behind the attempted assault.
