Delegation led by former caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar engages policymakers, media, and businesses in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan’s Balochistan province, led by former caretaker Prime Minister Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, undertook an official visit to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway from February 8 to 18, 2026, aimed at strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and presenting Pakistan’s position on regional security and development.
According to official sources, the visit focused on briefing European stakeholders on the security situation in Balochistan, highlighting ongoing socio-economic development, and countering what Pakistan describes as sustained misinformation and negative propaganda targeting the province.
During meetings with members of parliament, policymakers, government officials, and media representatives, the delegation presented factual data to address disinformation related to human rights, missing persons, and militancy in Balochistan. The delegation also raised concerns over extremist and militant networks operating abroad under the guise of human rights advocacy.
In Sweden, the delegation held meetings with representatives of the global telecommunications firm Ericsson, members of the Swedish Parliament, and the Mayor of Solna. Engagements with the Pakistani business community focused on potential investment, technology transfer, and economic cooperation.
In Denmark, the delegation gave interviews to national media outlets, visited the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court, and met senior executives of international companies Maersk and FLSmidth. Discussions were also held with officials from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of the Pakistani diaspora.
The Norway leg of the visit included political and policy-level meetings on regional security, counter-terrorism, and parliamentary engagement. The delegation included Senator Dhanish Kumar and Balochistan’s Minister for Works and Communications, Saleem Ahmed Khoso.
In an interview with Denmark-based magazine Solidaritet, Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said that armed groups often portrayed internationally as “human rights activists” were, in fact, responsible for violence against civilians. He described the activities of the Balochistan Liberation Army as a major impediment to peace and development in the province.
Addressing the issue of missing persons, Kakar stated that official records show several individuals previously listed as missing were later identified among militants killed during encounters with security forces.
The delegation also highlighted Pakistan’s regional perspective, particularly developments in Afghanistan, emphasizing that long-term stability cannot be imposed through external military or financial intervention, but must be rooted in local political and social structures.
European forums acknowledged ongoing socio-economic initiatives in Balochistan, with participants expressing interest in trade, infrastructure, and investment opportunities in the province.
The visit represents a significant effort to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and more effectively project Pakistan’s narrative on Balochistan at international platforms.
