The Balochistan government has approved the merger of the Levies Force with the police across six divisions of the province, according to an official notification issued on Wednesday.
The decision, made by the provincial cabinet following a request from the Home Department, brings the Levies Force in Quetta, Kalat, Makran, Rakhshan, Naseerabad, and Zhob divisions formally under the jurisdiction of the Balochistan Police.
According to the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), the merger was approved under the Balochistan Rules of Business 2012 after consultation with all cabinet members.
Following the merger, all Levies stations in the six divisions have now been brought under the Revenue Police Force structure.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahiq Rind said the merger will strengthen the law enforcement framework, improve coordination between institutions, and ensure more effective policing. He described it as a significant step forward in enhancing public safety and security in the province.
The spokesperson expressed confidence that the decision would play a vital role in maintaining peace and order across Balochistan.
Back in July 2024, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced the depoliticisation of the police and Levies forces, emphasizing merit-based appointments for SPs, DPOs, and SHOs. He directed the Inspector General (IG) Police to ensure that no political figure or assembly member interferes in police postings or operations.
CM Bugti reaffirmed that police officers’ tenures would remain intact unless they violated parliamentary privileges or the dignity of citizens. “We are depoliticising and providing a free environment while ensuring accountability within the police department,” he stated.
