The Balochistan government has approved the Benazir Kissan Card, a major agriculture support initiative aimed at providing direct financial assistance and subsidies to farmers across the province, with a special focus on small landholders.
Under the scheme, farmers will receive subsidies for essential agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and farm machinery. To ensure transparency, the government has partnered with HBL Konnect, through which farmers’ bank accounts will be opened and subsidies disbursed directly.
80,000 Farmers Already Registered
Officials said more than 80,000 farmers have already been registered across various districts of Balochistan. However, authorities have directed action in districts where the registration process remains slow to ensure wider coverage.
Farmers can register through a dedicated online portal titled “Kissan Balochistan”, via the Benazir Kissan Card mobile application, or by visiting the offices of Deputy Directors Agriculture (Extension) in their respective districts. Officials clarified that unregistered farmers will not be eligible for the Kissan Card.
Phased Subsidy Plan
According to a government spokesperson, the scheme will be implemented in phases. In the first phase, subsidies will be financed through provincial funds, while in the second phase, support from the federal government will be sought to expand the programme.
The Benazir Kissan Card is expected to improve financial inclusion, reduce input costs, and strengthen agricultural productivity in Balochistan—where farming remains a key source of livelihood amid economic pressure and climate stress.
