The Balochistan government has announced the recruitment of 4,000 teachers on an ad hoc basis under the Academic Excellence Programme to overcome a severe shortage of subject specialists in government schools across the province.
The announcement was made by Asfandyar Khan Kakar, Secretary of Education Balochistan, who said the new recruitments would primarily focus on English, Mathematics, and Science, the most understaffed subjects in public sector schools.
“Government schools in Balochistan are facing a 70 to 80 per cent shortfall of teachers in these core subjects,” he said, adding that the provincial government has prepared a formal summary for the recruitment of 4,000 teachers to bridge this gap.
According to the education department, the recruitments will be made in Grade-17 on an ad hoc basis, a step expected to significantly improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in government schools. Officials believe the move will help stabilize academic activities, particularly in remote and underserved districts.
Revival of Non-Functional Schools
The secretary further stated that the provincial government has restored several thousand non-functional schools across Balochistan that were previously closed due to teacher shortages or prolonged absenteeism. The fresh induction of teachers is expected to strengthen these reopened institutions and ensure their long-term sustainability.
