Balochistan government approves appointment of 46 new SDPOs to boost police supervision and law and order after Levies–Police merger, CM Sarfraz Bugti says.
In a major step towards strengthening law enforcement and administrative oversight, the Balochistan government has approved the appointment of 46 new Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) across the province following the merger of the Levies force with the police.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting on the capacity and performance of the police force, chaired by Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
According to official sources, the meeting reviewed progress made after the Levies–Police merger, assessed operational and administrative challenges, and finalised both short-term and long-term plans to modernise the Balochistan Police.
New Police Structure at Divisional, District Levels
During the meeting, the chief minister directed the immediate establishment of a new police administrative structure at divisional and district levels, along with the provision of all required financial, technical, and human resources. He assured full government support to enhance police capacity and operational effectiveness.
Officials from the Balochistan Home Department briefed participants on reforms introduced after the transition, ongoing issues, and the future course of action to ensure smooth implementation of the merger.
Focus on Counter-Terrorism and Modern Policing
The chief minister noted that the Balochistan Police face not only routine criminal activity but also serious security threats, including terrorism. He stressed the need to equip the force with professional skills, modern training, and advanced technology to effectively address emerging challenges.
He further instructed that reforms related to police jurisdictions and powers must be implemented effectively following the Levies merger to improve public service delivery and strengthen law and order.
Monitoring Police Performance Across Districts
Emphasising the state’s responsibility to protect citizens, the chief minister said safeguarding the lives and property of the people is a core duty of the government and that no negligence would be tolerated.
He also directed the development of an effective monitoring and evaluation mechanism to regularly assess police performance in all districts of Balochistan.
Officials said the induction of new SDPOs and the restructuring of the police command system are expected to improve supervision, accountability, and coordination, ultimately enhancing public safety across the province.
