Quetta: The Balochistan government has taken the lead in launching the People’s Train Service and advancing multiple joint venture railway projects, following an in-principle agreement with Pakistan Railways aimed at reviving local rail connectivity across the province.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the provincial government is prioritising fast-tracked, results-driven implementation of the People’s Train Service to provide affordable, safe, and reliable transport for the public. He announced that Rs 1.4 billion would be released within the current week to support the project.
The chief minister said that after the successful operation of the Sariab–Kachlak route, the service will be expanded to Mastung, Pishin, and other areas. He added that the Balochistan government will ensure the construction of new railway stations and the upgradation of existing infrastructure by providing the required resources.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi acknowledged Balochistan’s leadership in local rail services, calling it a historic step toward provincial participation and devolution in railway operations. He said the People’s Train Service reflects strong cooperation between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways and could serve as a model for other provinces.
During the visit, the chief minister and the federal minister also inspected the Railways Football Ground in Quetta, where both sides agreed to promote sports activities and initiate joint development projects on Pakistan Railways land.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reiterated that the revival of the railway system and the provision of low-cost, safe public transport remain among the top priorities of the Balochistan government, stressing that coordinated efforts with the federal government will help modernise rail services in the province.
