In a major boost to the agricultural sector, the Government of Balochistan has disbursed Rs3.2 billion in interest-free loans to farmers under the second phase of the Green Pakistan Initiative.
A special ceremony was held in Quetta, attended by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti along with senior civil and military officials. During the event, 847 farmers were provided interest-free loans aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity across the province.
Success of the First Phase
Officials stated that in the first phase of the Green Pakistan Initiative, 257 farmers received Rs685 million in interest-free loans. The program was termed successful, prompting the expansion of the initiative in its second phase.
Cultivation of Over 35,000 Acres
Under the second phase, financial support has been extended for cultivation on 35,609 acres of land. Authorities expect a significant increase in agricultural output, which could positively impact farmers’ incomes and contribute to higher exports from the province.
CM’s Remarks
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that farmer-friendly policies would strengthen agriculture — the backbone of Balochistan’s economy. He noted that enhanced agricultural productivity would help stabilize the province’s economy and support export growth.
Farmers Welcome the Initiative
Beneficiary farmers welcomed the interest-free loans and easy repayment terms, calling the initiative a major relief for small and underprivileged growers. They expressed gratitude to the provincial government, saying the program would ease financial pressures and improve cultivation capacity.
The Green Pakistan Initiative is being viewed as a key step toward sustainable agricultural development and economic uplift in Balochistan.
