CM Sarfraz Bugti inaugurates Balochistan electric bike scheme providing subsidized e-scooters.

The Government of Balochistan has launched a new electric bike scheme aimed at providing affordable and environmentally friendly transportation to students, working women, and the general public across the province.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti formally inaugurated the Electric Scooty Scheme during a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta. Senior officials briefed the chief minister on the details of the initiative, which seeks to modernize transportation while reducing fuel consumption.

According to officials, 20,000 electric scooties will be distributed under the program. Each electric bike has been priced at Rs175,000, while the provincial government will provide a 30 percent subsidy to make the vehicles more affordable for citizens.

Under the scheme, applicants will be able to purchase electric bikes through easy installment plans of one or two years, making them accessible to students, working women, and other residents who require reliable transportation for education and employment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti described the initiative as a significant step toward promoting modern, low-cost, and sustainable transportation in Balochistan.

He emphasized that the distribution of electric bikes will be carried out with complete transparency and merit. Residents from any district of the province will be able to apply through an online application system, with successful candidates selected through a transparent balloting process.

Officials also highlighted that the electric bikes included in the scheme will have a travel range of 70 to 100 kilometers per charge, making them suitable for daily commuting.

Bugti noted that the initiative will help reduce fuel consumption and contribute to environmental protection while offering a practical transport solution to the people of Balochistan.

The chief minister further revealed that the government is considering introducing electric loaders in the next phase of the project to support small businesses and workers who depend on transport for their livelihoods.

It is worth noting that in January 2026, the Balochistan government signed an agreement with the National Bank of Pakistan to facilitate the subsidized electric scooty scheme.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Mir Liaquat Lehri, members of the provincial cabinet and assembly, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, and other senior officials.

Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, fuel conservation, and improved mobility for the people of Balochistan.
