A sharp cold wave swept across central and northern Balochistan on Thursday as temperatures in several districts, including Quetta and Kalat, plunged to 1°C, intensifying the winter chill across the region.
According to the Meteorological Department, most parts of the province will continue to experience cold and dry weather throughout the day, with an additional dip expected in the northern belt over the next 24 hours.
Quetta witnessed one of the coldest mornings of the season as the mercury dropped to a minimum of 1°C. Kalat recorded a similar low, reinforcing the early onset of winter in the high-altitude regions.
Other districts observed relatively milder conditions, with Sibi at 12°C, Nokundi at 9°C, Gwadar at 14°C, and the coastal town of Jiwani registering a comparatively moderate 19°C due to maritime influence.
Local authorities advised residents—particularly those in higher altitudes—to take precautions against the biting cold, which is expected to intensify during nighttime. Health experts also urged citizens to keep children and the elderly warm as the sudden temperature drop increases the risk of seasonal illnesses.
With dry winds continuing to dominate the region, central and northern Balochistan brace for even colder days ahead as winter tightens its grip.
