Balochistan cabinet condemns Afghan aggression, lauds armed forces’ response
The Balochistan cabinet condemns Afghan aggression against Pakistan and praised the armed forces for their prompt, effective, and professional response to recent hostilities.
The cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, paid rich tribute to martyrs of the armed forces who laid down their lives in defence of the motherland. The meeting also offered prayers for their eternal peace and reviewed critical administrative, legislative, and environmental matters.
Bugti: Afghan rulers have shown no change since 1947
Speaking at the meeting, CM Bugti said, “Every government that came to power in Afghanistan has maintained the same hostile posture. From 1947 till today, Afghan rulers have shown no positive change in their attitude.”
He emphasized that the repatriation of Afghan refugees remains the federal government’s decision, but the provincial government will ensure full implementation of this policy in Balochistan.
Cabinet approves new powers under Section 144
The cabinet approved amendments allowing deputy commissioners to impose Section 144 for 30 days, commissioners for 60 days, and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) for 90 days. These changes aim to strengthen administrative control and maintain law and order across the province.
Climate resilience: Expanding mangrove forests
In a significant environmental step, the cabinet approved expansion of mangrove forests along Balochistan’s coastal belt to strengthen ecological protection and counter the effects of climate change.
The move aligns with the province’s broader climate strategy to safeguard coastal communities and biodiversity.
New women’s protection and anti-sexual crimes units
The cabinet also approved the establishment of anti-sexual crimes units dedicated to registering and investigating cases of sexual violence. A special women’s protection force will be created to provide immediate assistance and legal support to victims of harassment.
Fisheries, narcotics control, and journalists’ housing
The cabinet formed a committee led by Minister Mir Zahoor Buledi to finalize recommendations for the Balochistan Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill, promoting sustainable growth in the fisheries sector.
It also passed the Balochistan Control of Narcotic Substances Bill 2025, designed to curb drug trafficking and promote social reform.
Additionally, the government granted industry status to the Mines and Minerals sector and approved the Journalists’ Housing Colony for members of the Gwadar Press Club to provide residential facilities.
Legal and administrative reforms
The cabinet approved amendments to the Nikah Nama (Marriage Registration Form-II) in compliance with Supreme Court directives, as well as the Balochistan Overseas Pakistanis Commission Bill 2025, creating a mechanism to address issues faced by overseas Baloch citizens.
The Balochistan Land Lease Policy 2025 was also passed to ensure transparent, equitable, and sustainable use of state land.
