Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
Pakistan’s security forces successfully foiled a major terrorist attack on a check post in Bajaur district, killing 12 Khawarij militants. However, 11 soldiers were martyred after terrorists detonated an explosives-laden vehicle, according to the military’s media wing.
In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations said the attackers rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the wall of the security check post in a “cowardly terrorist assault,” causing a powerful blast that damaged nearby residential buildings.
The explosion also claimed the life of an innocent young girl, while seven civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries.
Clearance Operation Underway in Bajaur
ISPR confirmed that security forces responded swiftly, eliminating 12 terrorists and preventing further damage. A clearance operation is currently underway in the area to eliminate remaining militants.
The military said counterterrorism efforts will continue under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
“These sacrifices reaffirm our unwavering resolve to defend the homeland at all costs,” the statement added.
Rising Militancy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in former tribal districts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, has increased since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021. Civilians, police, and security forces have repeatedly been targeted in these attacks.
Security officials say Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has reorganized in Afghanistan and established cross-border safe havens, from where it continues to plan and launch attacks inside Pakistan.
