At least 13 passengers, including women and children, were killed and dozens injured in two separate road accidents in Balochistan on Thursday, police and rescue officials said.
Karachi-bound coach collides with truck in Lasbela
In the first incident, a Karachi-bound coach from Panjgur collided head-on with a truck near Zero Point in Lasbela’s Uthal, killing six passengers and injuring 17 others. The crash temporarily disrupted traffic on the national highway as rescuers rushed to assist victims and clear the road.
Second accident near Hub-Winder
In a separate incident near Hub-Winder, another coach crashed, leaving seven passengers dead and 16 injured. The critically injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, including the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre in Karachi, for treatment.
Authorities respond
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lasbela, Atif Amir, confirmed that traffic has now resumed and rescue operations at both sites have concluded.
Road safety concerns
Road accidents continue to be a major cause of fatalities in Pakistan, often linked to poor road conditions, brake failures, and traffic violations. Last year, a bus carrying pilgrims from Punjab to Iran overturned on the Makran Coastal Highway, killing 11 and injuring over 30.
More recently, 28 pilgrims died in Iran when their bus crashed near the Taftan-Dehshir checkpoint due to speeding and brake failure.
