US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, during a closed-door lunch in the White House’s Cabinet Room today, according to a statement by a White House spokesperson.
The meeting comes as part of Field Marshal Munir’s official visit to the United States. Earlier this week, on Monday, he engaged with the overseas Pakistani community in Washington, D.C., where he received a warm welcome. The diaspora praised the exceptional performance of Pakistan’s Armed Forces during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, citing their bravery and professionalism.
During the event, Field Marshal Asim munir expressed his gratitude toward overseas Pakistanis, acknowledging their vital contributions to the nation’s economy and global reputation through remittances, investments, and achievements in various sectors. The interaction concluded with a collective commitment to fostering stronger collaboration and addressing mutual challenges for a more secure and prosperous Pakistan.
This visit holds strategic importance as it follows President Trump’s recent diplomatic intervention in mediating a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India. Last month, tensions escalated between the two nuclear-armed nations after India launched unprovoked airstrikes citing the April 22 Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, for which it blamed Pakistan without evidence.
The confrontation led to cross-border airstrikes, resulting in significant losses on both sides. Pakistan’s military forces launched “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” downing six Indian Air Force jets, including Rafale fighters. The conflict came to an end on May 10 after the United States facilitated a ceasefire. This meeting between President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to further discussions on bilateral collaboration and regional stability.
