The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday that Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran as part of Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
According to the ISPR, Field Marshal Munir is leading a high-level delegation that includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The visit comes at a critical time as diplomatic efforts intensify following inconclusive negotiations held in Islamabad over the weekend.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that indirect communication between Tehran and Washington has continued through Pakistan.
“Since Sunday, when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, several messages have been exchanged through Pakistan,” Baqaei said, adding that a Pakistani delegation was expected to continue discussions.
He reiterated that Iran’s right to uranium enrichment remains “indisputable,” though the level of enrichment is negotiable. He emphasized that peaceful nuclear energy rights cannot be taken away through pressure or war, while describing some US demands as “unreasonable and unrealistic.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump signaled that talks between Washington and Tehran could resume within days. Speaking to The New York Post, Trump suggested Pakistan may again host the next round of negotiations.
“We’re more inclined to go there,” Trump said, referring to Pakistan, while praising Field Marshal Munir’s role in facilitating dialogue.
He also indicated that alternative venues in Europe remain under consideration, while stating in a separate interview that the possibility of conflict with Iran was “very close to over.”
Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement highlights its emerging role as a key mediator between Iran and the United States, with the coming days expected to be crucial for the future of negotiations.
