“Police officers on duty outside Balochistan Governor House after accidental firing mishap”

ZHOB: At least two police officers and three students were injured on Friday after a police officer’s rifle accidentally went off outside the Balochistan Governor House in Zhob district, officials confirmed.

The students were hit in the arms and legs, while the police officers sustained minor injuries. All five injured were rushed to Zhob District Headquarters Hospital.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Abdul Rehman said the students underwent surgery and were in stable condition. The two injured police officers were discharged shortly after receiving first aid.

The incident took place around 12 pm, when students arrived at the Governor House to meet Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail regarding education-related issues. Police said the firing happened due to a technical fault or mishandling of the weapon. The rifle went off as the students were entering the Governor House after completing security checks.

Governor Mandokhail visited the hospital to inquire about the students’ health. He called the incident “deeply unfortunate” and announced that the government will bear all medical expenses. He also promised full educational and financial support for the injured students.

The Governor further directed authorities to ensure better training for police officers and regular inspection of weapons to avoid such accidents in the future.

Meanwhile, students of Government Boys Degree College and local community leaders staged a protest outside the Governor House. The protest ended after Governor Mandokhail offered a formal apology and announced compensation for the injured students.
