Five terrorists belonging to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were killed in intelligence-based operations (IBOs) carried out by Pakistani security forces in Kharan on Saturday, August 1, while newly surfaced videos from the area contradicted terrorist claims that they had taken control of the city.
Ground footage recorded shows Frontier Corps (FC), police and other security personnel deployed across key locations in Kharan throughout the night, maintaining security and conducting search and clearance operations. The videos challenge claims circulated by the banned outfit and its affiliated social media accounts that terrorists had seized control of the city.
Security Forces Kill Five BLA Terrorists in Kharan
According to security sources, the operations were launched after intelligence gathered from local residents identified the movement of terrorists involved in the attacks. Acting on the information, security forces carried out two separate intelligence-based operations in different parts of Kharan.
Five terrorists were killed during the operations, while security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives believed to have been intended for future attacks.
The recovered arsenal included:
- Two rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers
- Fourteen RPG rockets
- Improvised explosive device (IED) components
- Three submachine guns (SMGs)
- Large quantities of ammunition and other heavy ordnance
Officials said the recovery indicated that the attackers were preparing for further terrorist activities in the region.
Videos Show Security Forces Retained Control of Kharan
Following the attacks, the banned BLA claimed through its propaganda channels that its militants had taken control of Kharan city. However, videos recorded after the incident present a different picture.
The footage shows FC personnel, police and other law enforcement agencies deployed at major intersections, government installations and entry points across the city. Patrols continued throughout the night while search operations remained active.
The videos indicate that security forces maintained operational control of Kharan and that normal movement continued in several parts of the city despite the attempted attacks.
Two More Terrorists Killed in Gwadar
In a separate operation in Gwadar district, security forces killed two additional terrorists during an exchange of fire.
With the latest operations in Kharan and Gwadar, the total number of terrorists killed across Balochistan has risen to seven.
Search and Clearance Operations Continue
Security officials said search and clearance operations remain underway to locate and eliminate any remaining terrorists involved in the attacks.
Authorities said the operations disrupted what they described as a broader plot aimed at spreading fear, targeting civilians and undermining public confidence across the province.
Officials confirmed that no civilian or security forces casualties were reported during the attacks or the subsequent operations.
Local Intelligence Helped Foil the Plot
Security sources credited local residents for providing timely intelligence that enabled forces to identify terrorist movements and launch targeted operations.
Officials said continued cooperation from local communities remains critical to counterterrorism efforts in Balochistan and has played an important role in preventing militant attacks.
Province-Wide High Alert Issued
Following the incidents, authorities placed Balochistan on high alert and directed police personnel and other law enforcement officials to immediately report to their respective stations.
Officials instructed security personnel to remain fully armed and prepared for any emergency, while unnecessary movement was restricted as a precautionary measure.
Security forces said intelligence-based operations and clearance missions will continue until all remaining terrorists involved in the attacks are apprehended or neutralized.
