Quetta: Security forces killed 31 militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in Shahban Valley, about 35 miles from Quetta on Wednesday.
The operation was launched after credible intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants in the mountainous area. According to initial reports, the action targeted members of Fitna-ul-Hindustan (FAH) along with elements linked to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
A heavy exchange of fire took place during the operation, resulting in the deaths of 31 militants, while around 18 others were reported injured, security sources said.
Forces cordoned off the area and employed modern drone surveillance to monitor militant movement and support ground troops. Clearance and search operations were ongoing at the time of reporting to ensure the area had been fully secured.
Area’s Militant Background
On June 20, 2024, militants belonging to the banned BLA abducted 10 tourists from Shaban Picnic Point, located roughly 35 kilometers from Quetta. The kidnapped افراد were later killed in an incident that drew widespread condemnation.
The BLA has been involved in kidnappings, arson, targeted violence, and attacks on civilians and security personnel across Balochistan.
In a separate incident on Monday, militants linked to the group kidnapped a woman, Nargis Baloch, from the Balacha area of Kech district earlier this week.
Wider Security Drive
Security operations across Balochistan have intensified as part of a broader counterterrorism campaign. Officials say that in 2025, security forces conducted between 78,000 and 90,000 intelligence-based operations across the province, resulting in the killing of more than 700 militants.
Authorities say such operations are aimed at dismantling militant networks and preventing large-scale attacks in the region.
