Security forces killed 12 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Chagai district of Balochistan, according to security sources, as intelligence-led counterterrorism operations continue across the province against terrorists networks.
The operation was conducted after security forces received intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan, amid the operation 12 terrorists were killed, while a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Security forces also targeted and destroyed the terrorists’ hideouts during the operation. The recovery of weapons and ammunition is significant as it indicates the operational infrastructure available to terrorists groups operating in Balochistan.
The Chagai operation forms part of the continuing intelligence-based counterterrorism efforts in Balochistan, in which security forces have increasingly relied on intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations to locate terrorists concentrations before they can conduct attacks.
Earlier in August, security forces conducted several operations against terrorist networks in different districts of the province. On August 5 and 6, 12 terrorists were killed in separate operations in Washuk and Mastung, according to the security forces updates.
They also reported further IBOs later in the month, including operations in areas such as Ziarat, Harnai and Surab, highlighting the continued focus on intelligence-led disruption of militant networks.
Chagai includes important routes linking Pakistan with Iran and Afghanistan, while the Quetta-Taftan corridor is an important route for trade and movement toward the Iranian border. The area has also witnessed security incidents affecting commercial traffic and transport routes in recent weeks.
Maintaining security in Chagai is therefore important not only for counterterrorism but also for protecting local communities, border crossings, commercial traffic and regional connectivity.
Security authorities have reiterated that operations against terrorist networks will continue as part of efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in Balochistan.
For Chagai and the wider province, the objective extends beyond eliminating individual terrorist. Sustained disruption of terrorists networks is also central to creating a more secure environment for communities, trade, investment, border connectivity and Balochistan’s broader economic development.
